오늘 CNN에서 Tesla관련 뉴스를 읽다가 아래 문구처럼 headwinds 라는 단어를 봤는데 해석을 하려하니 직역인 머리바람(?) 이 말이 안되는 것 같더라구요. 그래서 찾아보니 역풍이라는 뜻을 가지고 있습니다. 오늘은 이 단어에 대해서 좀 더 공부해보려고 합니다.

사전에서 찾아보면 headwind는 내가 진행하는 방향과 반대쪽에서 불어오는 바람, 즉 역풍을 의미합니다. 원래 항해용어로 선두에 부는 바람을 의미했는데 최근에는 항해용어나 골프용어에도 쓰이고 은유적으로 일의 진행을 방해하는 힘이나 영향을 나타낼 때 사용하기도 합니다. 은유적으로 표현할 때는 장애물이나 도전의 의미도 내포하고 있습니다.
