주말에 영어공부를 하면서 모르는 단어를 사전에서 찾는 중에 나온 예문 중 "There is no point (in)~" 을 쓴 표현을 봤습니다. 그 의미는 "~해봐야 소용없다."입니다.
point가 "의미, 의도"를 뜻하기 때문에 There is no point~로 사용하여 의미 없다=소용없다는 의미를 나타내는 것 같습니다. 생각해보면 별로 어렵지 않기도 하고 그 의미상 자주 사용할 수 있는 관용구인데 모르고 있었네요. (공부를 하다보면 느끼는 거지만 배움은 참 끝이 없는 것 같습니다. ^^)
